2024 Water Restriction Notice For Rose Hill Residents

Water Restriction Notice

August 2, 2024

Rose Hill Water Customers:

The City of Wichita has announced starting Monday, August 5, 2024, customers may only water lawns one day a week because the City of Wichita has entered Stage 2 of its drought response plan. Hours for irrigation is limited to 8:00 p.m. through 10:00 a.m. As the City of Rose Hill purchases all of its water from Wichita, the conservation measures automatically become effective for Rose Hill water customers. These rules also affect Derby, Andover, Valley Center, Park City, Kechi, Bel Aire, Bentley, Benton and many Rural Water Districts.

Currently, the conservation pool at Cheney Reservoir has dropped from 68% full on June 1st to 62% at the end of July. Voluntary calls for water conservation did not curb water use enough, in the estimation of the City Wichita. Usage, plus evaporation of water in the lake during recent hot and windy days, necessitated the call for mandatory water restrictions.

To determine if watering is non-crucial or crucial, crucial means keeping someone alive or an important economic factor for a business. All outdoor non-crucial watering for all water users is restricted to once a week, including flower gardens. Food-producing gardens utilizing drip irrigation or hand watering are exempt from the watering restriction. The planting of trees and bushes are also prohibited as is reseeding of lawns and wasting of water. The use of private water wells is not prohibited by this order but due to drought conditions, excessive irrigation by wells is discouraged.

There are a number of ways to limit water use, include washing full loads of clothes and dishes, using a car wash instead of washing your car with a hose and not letting the faucet run while not actively using the water. Visit SaveWichitaWater.com for more information and water conservation tips. We hope everyone understands the need for water conservation and it will not be necessary to take further action. If you have any questions, please contact Rose Hill City Hall at 776-2712.
