All dogs and cats must be registered with the City. Registration and pet tag renewals are due by the last day of February each year. There will be a $5.00 late fee if not purchased by March 1. Pet Tags
Pet tags can be purchased online or in person during business hours at the Rose Hill Police Department, 125 W Rosewood, or at the Rose Hill Veterinary Clinic, 110 N Rose Hill Road. 2-116 – Running at Large
It is unlawful for any person to willfully allow any animal or fowl under his/her control to run at large within the city.

2-120 – Vehicular Accidents Involving Animals
Any person who is the operator of a motor vehicle who strikes any animal shall stop at once and report the accident to the owner of the animal. If the owner cannot be found the operator of the vehicle will report the accident to the police department.

2-201 – Registration and Vaccination Required
Every owner of any dog or cat over the age of six months shall annually register with the police department the description of each dog or cat owned and kept within The City of Rose Hill. The owner will provide current certification of immunization against rabies. This ordinance does not apply to any cat or dog owned by a person visiting or temporarily remaining within the city for less than 30 days. 2-207 – Kennel Licenses
No person or household can own or harbor more than four dogs or cats who are six months of age or older, nor more than one litter of puppies or kittens, in any combination, or engage in the commercial business of breeding, buying, selling, trading, training, or boarding cats or dogs without having obtained a kennel license from The City of Rose Hill. The license must be renewed annually.

2-118 – Impoundment of Suspected Rabid Animal
Any animal that has bitten a person or another animal will be impounded for observation, examination, and testing. Testing and confinement periods will be determined to protect humans or other animals. All fees and cost relating to impoundment, confinement and testing will be paid by the owner of the animal.

2-112 – Noisy Animals
No person will keep any animal that disturbs the peace by frequent or habitual barking, howling, yelping, mewing, roaring or screeching. It will be the duty of the owner of such animal to stop the disruption of the peace. Failure to do so will result in the animal being impounded or disposed of by The City of Rose Hill at the owner’s expense.

2-111 – Nuisance; Animal Activities Prohibited
No person will keep any animal in The City of Rose Hill which is a nuisance. A “nuisance” is defined as any animal that interferes with persons in the public right of way, attacks or injures persons or other domestic animals, damages public or private property other than that of its owner by its activities, scatters excrement refuse that is bagged or otherwise contained or causes any condition which threatens or endangers the health or well-being of a person or other animals.

2-301 – Exotic Animals
It is unlawful for anyone to keep, maintain or have in possession within the City Limits of Rose Hill any poisonous reptile or any other dangerous wild animal or reptile, any vicious or dangerous animal or any other animal, reptile or vicious animal of wild propensities. These prohibitions shall not apply to bona fide pet shops, zoos, circuses, carnivals, educational institutions or medical institutions if: their location conforms to the provision of the zoning ordinance of the city. All animals and animal quarters are kept in a clean and sanitary condition and maintained as to eliminate objectionable odors and the animals are maintained in quarters so constructed as to prevent their escape.
